An examination of the attitudes of students participate in intercollegiate sport events towards doping usage

The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes of students who participate in intercollegiate sport events towards doping usage. Total of 381 student athletes from different branches of sports who participated in the intercollegiate sport events held in 2010 participated in this study. 134 of them were females and 247 of them were males. Variences of student athletes? branches are as follows: Shooting (57); Fencing (81); Orienteering (92); Handball (49) Table Tennis (55); and Triatlon (74). In this study, for the data collection ?Personal Information Form? and ?Attitude Scale for the Usage of Doping? developed by the researcher were used. Cronbach Alfa Value of Attitude Scale was measured as 0,904 and the Spearman Brown split half correlation coefficient was 0,879.According to the result of the study, It has been found that there is no pozitive difference between student athletes? attitudes towards doping usage and age, gender, class, state of playing sports in a sports club and being a national sportsman; however there is a pozitive difference between academic achievement, income level, sport age, undergoing a doping control, and branches of sports.As a result of this study it can be stated that student athletes have the thought that doping usage of student athletes who participate in intercollegiate sport events is inappropriate in terms of ethics, but it is effective for sportive performance.Key Words: Doping, Sport, Atttitude, Student Athletes
