Investigation of the probable chemical wastes produced in universities and their disposal methods

Today the issue of waste may represent a significant enviromental and human health risk. It is not only of crucial importance for life, but also a broad subject to be studied.With a waste management plan prepared primarily by health institutions and other institutions and organizations; separation of waste at source, transportation inside and outside the institution, temporary storage and transportation to disposal sites should be carried out with the help of an environmental awareness. Thus, waste management ensures the ecological and economic balance and ensures that policies for the benefit of the individual and society become operational. In this study, some departmans at the campus of our university and hospital of our university were examined as an example and it was aimed to create an informative resource about the chemical wastes that may occur in the universities, their management and disposal methods. While creating this resource, the related articles such as the Regulation on Control of Medical Wastes, Regulation on Control of Hazardous Wastes, Regulation on the Measures to be Taken for the Protection of the Environment and Public Health from the Negative Effects of Non-Ionizing Radiation were also mentioned..As a result, it was observed that mostly safe disposal methods were applied for hazardous, chemical-based wastes while methods like recycling, reusage or releasing to the natural cycle were rarely applied.
