Abstract (EN)

Determining the effect of the changing fertility policies on contraceptive preferences is crucial for rearranging the service delivery. This study was designed and conducted based upon the possibility that determining the factors affecting the family planning method preferences of women in line with new policies might guide in restructuring the nursing interventions and trainings accordingly when delivering counseling and service. The study was designed for determining the factors affecting the family planning method preferences of reproductive-age women in the age range of 15-49 years, who were enrolled in a family health center. The population of the study consisted of 1105 women who were enrolled in the Unit No 25 of Osmaniye Family Health Center No 4. However, the sample group consisted of 598 women. A survey form prepared by the researchers was used as data collection tool. After determining that women in the age range of 15-49 years, who were registered in Unit No 25 of Osmaniye Family Health Center No 4, would participate in the study, the data were collected one by one from the system of the aforementioned unit. Of the women who participated in the study, 79.6% were using a family planning method. Among the family planning methods used, it was determined that condom was used at the highest rate (34.9%). The reasons for women not to use family planning methods were found to be the intention to conceive (7.7%), partner's rejection (3.8%) and being already pregnant at that moment (5.0%). It was determined that there was a statistically significant correlation between the averages of the women's age and number of children and their state of using family planning method (p<0.05). Also, there was a statistically significant correlation between the women's household number and chronic illnesses and their state of using family planning method (p<0.05). The women's educational level was correlated with the state of providing the family planning method used (p<0.05). It was stated that in recent years the women aged between 15-49 years have used family planning method at a higher rate but their rate of using the method effectively was very low. An effective presentation of family planning counseling services conducted in primary healthcare will also increase the use of modern family planning methods.
