The relationship of the complaints of applying to the emergency department of women of reproductive age with premenstrual syndrome

Premenstrual syndrome is common in women of reproductive age and is one of the most important problems that affects not only her but also the people around her. This study was planned as a cross-sectional and descriptive study to evaluate the relationship between premenstrual syndrome and the complaints of women of reproductive age who applied to the emergency department. The study, which was planned as a cross-sectional and descriptive type, was carried out with 250 female participants aged 18 years and above of reproductive age who applied to the emergency department of Sakarya Training and Research Hospital between October 2020 and june 2020. "Questionnaire form containing the introductory characteristics of women", "Premenstrual Syndrome Scale (PMS)" and "State Anxiety Scale" were used to collect the data and the data were made using IBM SPSS Statistics 23 program. Statistically, the significant value was accepted as p<0.05. In our study where the women in the study group got an average of 97.40±26.62 points from PMS, 23.6% of the women who applied to the emergency department were found to have PMS. It was determined that 53.6% of the women applied to the emergency service outside of working hours (16:00-08:00), 20.2% applied because they were pleased before, and 66% came to by bus. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale and its sub-dimensions and the State Anxiety Inventory (for each; p<0.05). In our study, It was determined that women with PMS were those with low income, living in a metropolitan city, using medication during menstruation and the women who came to the emergency department by bus were more have PMS than those who came by ambulance.
