The theory of bottleneck in production flow and an application

Existence reason of the companies is to earn the money. The theory of bottleneck denoting the idea that there are constraints preventing the earning money is a philosophy of management which is both developed for managing these constraints effectively by determining them and to be increased the output of the system by depending on these events. The theory consists of three main title: Logistics, measurments of success and thinking processes. What important about logistics approach is to be determined the sources of bottleneck and to be linked of all decisions to the goal that will make the bottleneck more effective. Full capacity working of the sources that is not bottleneck will not contribute positive effects to the outputs providing from the system, only will cause internal partition stock. Furthermore, each loss arising at the sources of bottleneck expresses the loss for complete of the system. Therefore it is vital to be determined the bottlenecks in the system and provided working of these botllenecked sources syncronisally with the other sources.Although there are a lot of searches about the theory of bottleneck world wide , studies about this subject around our country are not enough. At this study which was prepared by considering this condition, it was aimed to be composed a theoretical framework about bottleneck theory and analysed the application results in a manifacturing industry. At the firm that was choosen as a matter of analyse for this reason, all the processes from customer orders to transport the order were observated during one year period and some results were obtained. Determined bottlenecks in the system were obtained time to time as machinery, employees or top management decisions. The applications such as new machinery purchasing, working during break period, bonus system based on performance to increase employee satisfaction and simplfying the work gained rise of company?s output.Keywords: The Theory of Bottleneck, The Theory of Constraints, Management of Bottleneck Resources.
