Assestment of industry 4.0 process in manufacturing industry enterprises: Case of Malatya Organized Industrial Zone

The First Industrial Revolution, which started with the transfer of water and steam power to mechanical systems at the end of the 18th century, continued with the separation of business processes and the start of large-scale production depending on electrical energy at the beginning of the 20th century. The first production line started to be used in 1870 with the Second Industrial Revolution. With the Third Industrial Revolution, electronic systems began to be used effectively in the production process. With the introduction of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) cards, automation systems were established in production and electronic technologies began to be used effectively in the field of manufacturing. With the concept of Industry 4.0, which was heard for the first time at the Hannover fair in Germany in 2011, a collective structure that manages itself and communicates between systems has begun to enter our lives by transferring all production processes from beginning to end to a modular structure. With Industry 4.0, innovative developments have started to occur in many areas in our lives. This revolution, which progresses much faster than previous revolutions, brings with it innovation and change in many areas such as production, strategy, market and competition in enterprises. The aim of the study is to determine the level of knowledge of the enterprises located in Malatya 1st and 2nd Organized Industrial Zone about the innovations and changes that came into our lives with Industry 4.0. In the first part of the study, the general framework of the first, second, third and fourth industrial revolutions was drawn, and their historical processes, achievements and social effects were revealed. In the second part, general information about the technology components of Industry 4.0 is given with a comprehensive literature review. In the third part, which is the research part, a prepared survey was applied to 102 businesses from 11 different sectors. As a result of the face-to-face survey, data were collected and statistical analyzes were made. As a result of the analyzes, it was concluded that the level of knowledge about Industry 4.0 does not show a sectoral distribution, the companies that have knowledge about lean production have a high level of Industry 4.0 knowledge, the exporting companies have a high level of Industry 4.0 knowledge and as the size of the business increases the level of knowledge about Industry 4.0 increases.
