Determination of efficiency of internal control system in production enterprises: Kocaeli case study

As a result of the real and financial crises experienced in recent years, technological developments and growing firm balance sheets, the importance of the concept of internal control has become significant. The desire of top management to dominate the organization and organization activities from the business center has started to come to the agenda more particularly in recent years. In this sense, the internal control model was developed by COSO in 1992 to guide businesses in creating a successful internal control system. This model was last updated by COSO in 2013. COSO internal control model consists of control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information and Communication and monitoring components. The COSO internal control model is a continuous practice that covers all business processes in the enterprise. The main purpose of the model is to help business management to achieve corporate goals. In this study, the effectiveness of internal control practices in production enterprises operating in organized industrial zones in Kocaeli province was investigated within the framework of COSO standards. Production companies were preferred because of the great contribution of the production sector to the country's economy. For this purpose, a survey was carried out for the production enterprises in the specified region. The data were analyzed through SPSS statistical software.
