Abstract (EN)

Settlement tissues reflecting the construction technique peculiar to the region and use of material and the rural settlements which both possess rural production fields and additionally contain natural environment values brush up against various threats due to the socioeconomic developments in the changing world, within the spatial understanding arising from a social life form based on tradition and production. Protection of rural settlements has become a problem of the field of protection within this process and the concept of "rural heritage" has been developed. Rural settlements in Urla region also represent rich architectural heritage that is worth protection due to the living style, habits of the communities in the relevant period, traditions maintained to the present day, building technique and the use of materials specific to the region as well as monumental and public structures built, traditional dwellings and natural habitat. Within the scope of this study, the characteristics of the rural architectural heritage in the Urla region are examined under two titles as settlement features and architectural features. In relation to the rural settlements of the Urla region, the relationship between topography and settlement, street texture, common areas, monumental and public buildings have been examined and conservation problems have been determined with special focus on traditional dwellings architecture. As a result, in the conducted study focused on rural settlements in the Urla region, characteristics of the rural structure have been revealed and dwellings typologies have been created.
