Abstract (EN)
Transmedia Storytelling (TS) is a method which a given franchise's narrative elements are purposefully scattered across multiple media channels. This thesis aims to examine the usage of TS techniques in video games and study the player's interest in transmedia materials. It is also aimed to understand if TS is meant to stay as an area of interest for only a passionate group of consumers. To achieve this goal, World of Warcraft (WoW), one of the most well-known MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game1) of all time, has been selected as case study. Although several studies have explored the usage of TS in the Warcraft franchise, the online interview and open - ended survey methods have not been used together. In this study an interview has been conducted with 5 WoW players through online meeting as well as an online survey with 58 participants. The results shed light upon some of the ongoing problems of TS. The results also provided insights about how to improve the usage of TS in video games. This study is expected to provide possible solutions about utilizing TS aspects through in-game elements. It is also expected that this study will emphasize the ongoing problems of TS and propose solutions.
