Evaluation of knowledge on hospital infections of the nurses working in the hospitals of Uşak provincial center

SUMMARY Evaluation of knowledge on hospital infections of the nurses working in the Hospitals of Uşak Provincial Center This study was performed as a supplementary study in order to determine the knowledge on hospital infections of the nurses working in the Hospitals of Uşak Provincial Center. A total of 236 nurses working in Uşak SSK Hospital and Uşak State Hospital were included in the study. Study data were collected using the questionnaire given in Annex- 1 that was specially developed for nurses. There were questions in the questionnaire to evaluate the level of knowledge of the ruses about hospital injections as well as questions about the identities of nurses. An investigator and an interviewer performed the interviews between the dates 16th -3 1st Dec. 2002. Data of the investigation were entered to SPSS program and evaluated. Variance, t-test and Chi-Square tests were used in the evaluation. It was found that the knowledge levels nurses about hospital infections were adequate. Relevant proposals were submitted by considering that Infections Control Committees to be established in Hospitals would reduce the unnecessary occupation of beds, time losses, and additional costs that would cause economic loss; and furthermore, arranging continuous and effective training programs for nurses would ensure a more conscious and effective patient-caring.
