Abstract (EN)

During the ancient era, nations made use of their resources in order to create their own unique civilizations. In order to preserve a genuine existence, it is very necessary for us to reestablish a connection with our cultural origins and make use of the various approaches that are accessible in our modern life to utilizing natural resources. This research was carried out as an experimental endeavor with the purpose of achieving this objective. Through this research, the goal is to investigate how palm petioles might be utilized in contemporary architecture in an effective manner. For the purpose of demonstrating that palm petioles may be exploited efficiently in contemporary architecture as a sustainable material, a literature review, laboratory experiments, case study and cost analysis were carried out. The research addresses the main question: "How can palm petioles be used in modern architecture efficiently?" through a comprehensive analysis of their physical, chemical, and mechanical properties, as well as their practical applications in construction. The study begins with an examination of traditional building materials in the Middle East and Africa, providing context for the introduction of palm petioles as an alternative. A detailed investigation into the anatomy of palm trees and the global distribution of these species follows, setting the stage for an in-depth analysis of palm petioles' properties and their current uses in construction. Laboratory tests were conducted to assess the strength and durability of palm petioles, with results indicating promising potential for various architectural applications. The research explores innovative uses of palm petioles in modern construction, including their incorporation in cement mortar, scaffolding, and one-floor arch buildings. Case studies demonstrate the practical implementation of palm petioles in facades, roofing, flooring, and walling. A cost-benefit analysis compares palm petioles to traditional building materials, highlighting potential economic advantages. The thesis also addresses technical challenges and future directions for utilizing palm petioles in sustainable architecture. By examining architectural, religious, environmental, and economic aspects, this research provides a holistic view of the potential impact of palm petioles on modern construction practices. The findings of this study contribute to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable building materials and offer valuable insights for architects, engineers, and policymakers interested in eco-friendly construction alternatives. This research paves the way for further exploration and implementation of palm petioles in modern architecture, potentially revolutionizing sustainable building practices in regions where palm trees are abundant.
