Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine the speech properties of senior managers, in context with their Turkish language and literature education. In this study, field research method is choosen in order to determine the incidences of the contents defined in the program and in realized practices in the field and in real-life situations, via speech properties of senior managers indicated as role models. The stages of data acquisition and observation of the study was realized between 02.04.2009 and 23.08.2011 in ten public institutions in Ankara. Participants of this study are ten senior managers, positioned as consultant, assistant consultant, general manager and chief executive by minister, prime minister and president of the republic (by tecnary decree).Study consists of two stages. In first stage, based on the interviews, the opinions of the senior managers about the speech properties they require is determined, by defining considerations whether they got an speech education, the importance of the speech for them and their inadequacies and qualifications. The opinions of the senior managers about the planning properties of the required speech properties is categorized under expression properties and the speech properties which used in the communication processes with the co-workers; the application styles and levels of these properties by aforecited senior managers is determined in the second stage. Collected data is studied in three extends as speech properties, envisioning and expression properties and speech properties used in the processes of communication with co-workers.As a result of this research, aiming to determine the speech properties of senior managers, it is determined true that the employee is effective in the start of service and progress stages, in introducing the institution to the public and in creating positive public opinion about the institution, in establishing communication effectively with co-workers and in gaining prestige in terms of accurate usage of speech properties, but it is also determined that senior managers did not have an adequate education about this matter.In context with usage of planning their speech properties, it is determined that senior managers are not adequate at planning; in context with the data, regarding expression properties, they are adequate at dealing with the subject, but inadequate at expressing, in terms of using expression properties; in context with the data regarding the usage speech properties in the process of communication, it is determined that they can not realize a conversation matching the criterias in terms of communication properties.It is also determined that senior managers see themselves adequate at speech properties and describe themselves ?good? on the matter, but regarding the data collected from the speechs made in meetings, senior manager are not adequate at the usage of language properties, in the process of planning properties, expression properties and communication properties.Key Words: Speech, Speech Education, Speech Features, Senior Manager.
