Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the decision making processes of gifted students and their parents on a controversial text in the context of epistemic profiles. For this purpose, a questionnaire called "Bilimsel Epistemolojik İnanç Ölçeği" and "Epistemolojik İnançlar Senaryosu" vignet was applied to gifted students (n: 50) and parents (n: 50) selected primarily by conformity sampling in order to capture different epistemic profiles in identifying participants. After this application, three samples representing different epistemological profiles were included in the study. In this study, one of the qualitative research designs, holistic multiple case-design, which is a kind of case studies, is used in a naturalistic perspective. According to the epistemological belief profiles, each of the groups consisting of differentiating / non-differentiating individuals was considered as a case; first, each case was evaluated independently and then a cross-case analysis was performed. As a result of the study, it is seen that the reasoning of individuals with different epistemological beliefs on a controversial text differ in terms of process steps, thinking skills used in reasoning and epistemic biases; at the same time, regardless of the epistemological belief profile, all individuals had various epistemic biases.
