Teachers of science of highly talented perceptions of highly talented children and their education

The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of science teachers who teach highly talented children in normal schools towards highly talented children and their education . In the study the mixed method is used in which qualitative and quantitative research dimensions are used together. The part where the perceptions and opinions of the teachers of gifted students are determined through interviews is qualitative, and the part taken by questionnaire is quantitative. A total of 18 science teachers working in 6 schools of from schools selected by using the proportional cluster sampling model with lower , middle and upper socio-economic levels determined by taking into account the socioeconomic conditions of the city within the boundaires of Istanbul in qualitative terms , constitutes 100 science teachers who do. Different assessments tools are used for each dimension. The semi-structured interview form created by the researcher in the Qualitative dimension of the study , and in the quantitative dimension, the "Teachers 'Perceptıons Scale for Gifted Students" and " Teachers' Perception Scale for Gifted Students" developed by Demirok and Özcan (2016) in order to collect information about the perceptions and opinions of science teachers about gifted children . Students' Opinion Scale" is used. The data were evaluated by content analysis method. The data obtained from the interview were analyzed using then nVIVO program , and the data obtained from the surveys were analyzed using the SPSS package program. In the analysis of quantitative data , arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Parametric tests, test and one-factor analysis of variance are used. In the study ,the average score of science teachers 'perceptions of highly talented students is determined within the limits of "I agree ". In this sense , it was concluded that science teachers' perceptions of highly Talented students are positive. Considering the opinions of science teachers towards highly talented students,it is seen that the average score of their opinions about highly talented students is close to the limit of "I agree ". This finding revealed the result that science teachers have a positive view of highly talented students.
