Investigation of urban development by satellite images spatial and temporal changes: A case of Artvin city center

By using Remote Sensing technology, it can be to get information for alteration large extended areas. Nowadays, obtainable satellite images are great important source and solving questionable land using rate for spatial and temporal changes. In this study, the evaluation of satellite images from different time periods covering the Artvin city center as temporal and spatial changes were evaluated. The study results cover 2004 IKONOS, 2011 WORLDVIEW-2 satellite images and also existing maps and ground control point (GCPs) data has benefited. Visual assessment study was carried out using the methods of Geographical Information Systems database. By this method, conclusions were created with the registration of the relevant data exchange providing analysis. Between 2004 and 2011 years as spatial; house areas approximately 25.5% and road spaces 7.3% increased while public buildings areas approximately 0.3% and green areas has been found decreased. It were evaluated that one of the biggest reason this changes is consider to be population mobility in the city center. In this context, this thesis will be shed light related studies and planning areas as statistical information with a case of Artvin city center.
