Abstract (EN)

Solar radiation is the most important source of atmospheric general circulation, and its measurement is important. In addition, the need for utilization of renewable energy as a source of solar radiation increases the importance of solar observations. For these reasons, estimating the amount of solar radiation reaching the ground is very important.In this thesis, global solar radiation values were calculated by using satellite images. MSG-2 satellite SEVIRI radiometer datas have been used for calculating the cloud indexes. The calculated cloud indexes have been replaced in the satellite-based quadratic model and than about 20 km resolution monthly average global solar radiation values have been calculated for Turkey in 2007. The global solar radiation data derived from satellite images has compared with measurements which have taken from six meteorological stations. For the model validation study, RMSE, MBE, RE have been calculated. According to the statistical error analysis, the relative error rate of monthly average global solar radiations calculated from satellite data is % 9,0. Consequently, the global solar radiation data obtained from MSG-2 satellite images have computed with low error rates and high resolution for 2007.Key Words : Solar Radiation, Quadratic Model, Meteosat, Turkey
