Crimes involving the manufacture and trafficking of narcotic or stimulant drugs

The trafficking of drugs, referring to the manufacture, growing, distribution and sale of drugs governed by laws on the control of narcotic drugs, is illegal at a global level. The fact that a large number of illicit narcotic drugs are circulating beyond national borders and that the trafficking in drugs represents the main and most dangerous part of this kind of market demonstrates that this trafficking activity occurs not only within countries, but also at international level more often. As such, countries have criminalized activities involving the illegal production and trafficking of narcotic or stimulant drugs, and have established the necessary sanctions. It is widely known that the trafficking of narcotic drugs is on the rise, despite intensive global efforts to prevent their supply and trafficking, and the policies put in place to reduce demand. This thesis study will provide general information on narcotic and stimulant drugs and will detailly address manufacturing and trafficking in narcotic or stimulant drugs as they are defined and regulated as offence in article 188 of the Turkish Penal Code. The study will outline legislative regulations concerning manufacturing and trafficking of narcotic or stimulant drugs in various selected countries and then focus on the reasons for committing this offence and its consequences. In the conclusion and discussion part before proposing some potential solutions to prevent such crimes, will be discussed with an explanation of the relationship between such crimes and violations of human rights, and why this crime falls within the ambit of forensic science.
