Public relationship in cobating against drug and drug related crimes and a proposal of ideal model

This thesis examines public relations as a way of combating against substanceabuse. An ideal model of public relations in combating substance abuse is offered.Examples of public relations implementations in combating against drug in USA areexplored to be able to shape better solutions for Turkey?s substance abuse problem.The first chapter of this research talks about ?Drug, substance abuse crimes andits multiple dimensions? under three sub-titles. The first chapter informs the readersabout drug, and its kinds.The second chapter examines the crime and criminality phenomena, and thenexplores the crime-drug relations besides, different dimensions of substance abuse.In the third chapter; drug problem in Turkey is told in a general perspective, andcurrent situation, laws, international law is examined. Finally a brief information aboutthe international organizations that Turkey joined as a member is given.This study examines ?Public Relations? under two groups. The first one includesdefinitions of public relations, its aim, methods, and its importance. The second focusedon use of public relations in police jobs. Under this title police public relationship isexamined various ways such as people perception of police, structure of Turkish NationalPolice. Besides these, Public Relationship implementations in British Police is mentionedas another example of police-public relationship.The last chapter of the study tells the implementations of public relations incombating drug, and substance abuse in United States of America (USA) from which thisstudy build a new model for better results in combating substance abuse. Also this studyfocuses on community policing as a better way of policing. It is hypothesized that policewill be more successful with a better police-public connections, and continuous supportfrom public. This thesis concludes that police is not the only factor in prevention orreducing the substance abuse. Other agencies, organizations should be involved in plansagainst substance abuse and implementation of specific prevention strategies. Theseagencies may include schools, and school districts, religious structures such as mosquesor churches, and other religious organizations; law enforcement and other governmentagencies, such as mayor?s office, adult, child and other social service agencies, health-related organizations such as the local heath department, hospitals, and treatment andrecovery agencies, civic organizations such as rotary clubs, media agencies.
