Examining the views of the teachers who study with the students with learning disabilities at a distance educational environment

The aim of this research is to examine the views of teachers who conduct distance education to students with learning disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemie. In the province of Kocaeli, 10 teachers who applied distance education to the students with learning disabilities at secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education participated to the research. After the analysis of the data gathered within scope of the research, four main themes and twelve sub-themes were attained. These main themes are listed as distance education planning procedures, teaching strategies and materials used in distance education, problems experienced with the students with learning disabilities in the distance education process, and distance education in the future. As a consequence of the research, it can be concluded that for the children with learning disabilities, there are a large number of obstacles to benefit from the distance education effectively. Among these obstacles, the most frequently stated ones were the lack of the infrastructure, planning the educational processes of children with learning disabilities, not having adequate knowledge about the methods and approaches that can be used in their lessons, and the lack of the participation of the students. Besides these negative sides, the research showed that there are some advantages of distance education such as the opportunity of sharing instantaneous videos, sharing images and visuals, simplifying or changing the educational materials according to the students' needs.
