Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to measure the difference between the academic achievements of undergraduate students in face-to-face and distance education process in the Covid-19 period and to get the opinions of the students and faculty members involved in this practice about the reasons for this difference and to identify solutions for determined problems. Mixed research technique was used in the study. In the quantitative aspect of the research, the difference between the student achievements of the Introduction to Education course, which was held in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic period, was examined. In the qualitative aspect of the research, interviews were held with students studying and lecturers who gave Introduction to Education courses and actively participated in education activities at the Faculty of Education in İnönü University in the same period. In the study, an interview form was used with the lecturers as a data collection technique. According to the findings, it has been observed that the success rate in distance education in the Covi-19 period is higher than in face-to-face education. Regarding this, the participants stated that behaviors such as cheating, getting help from various sources and friends are effective in increasing success in distance education. It has been stated that the most common problems related to the measurement and evaluation process are the system failures, difficulty of student control and cheating. The most suggested solution for the problems encountered was to take exams that do not require memorization and measure students' high-level thinking skills. Although alternative assessment and evaluation applications were presented as one of the solution proposals, it was observed that all of the faculty members prefer multiple-choice test technique. Opinions expressed as the reasons for this choice were the large number of students, the usefulness, high validity and reliability of the technique and the opportunity of objective evaluation offered by the technique.
