Space economy and econometric model experiment on the determinants of income of the space economy

The space economy, which consists of positioning, data, broadband internet and television activities, geographic information systems-oriented activities, communication and transportation services, satellite production, launcher and carrier production and other space-based activities carried out for commercial purposes outside the orbit of the Earth, has become a rising sector today. . With the development of fields of activity such as space economy, space tourism, space mining, space warfare and space intelligence, it is seen as an alternative ecosystem to the established economic order. The "space age", which started with the space explorations and operations led by the USA and the USSR in the 1960s, has become a highly developed sector in the 2020s. With the increase in the share of developing countries in this ecosystem, which includes the great space state with them, the space economy has become a universal focus of attention. Especially since the 2000s, as a result of public-private partnerships under the leadership of NASA, space companies have emerged that constitute a significant market. These private initiatives, operating at all stages of the space ecosystem, from satellite production to internet provision, constitute the locomotive of the current space industry. The volume of this ever-growing market is estimated to approach half a trillion dollars by 2022. It is thought that the space economy trend will continue for many years and this ecosystem will be accessible to all countries of the world with the effect of globalization, due to the increase in the number of joint activities in space-oriented initiatives, the expansion of public-private partnerships, the rapid increase in investments in the space economy. The main purpose of the doctoral thesis is to analyze the data of 10 big space states selected according to the size of the space economy and what the determinants of space income are by using panel data analysis methods. In the first part of the thesis, which consists of four parts, the conceptual and technical dimensions of space activities are discussed, and in the second part, the structure and actors of the space economy are discussed. In the third part of the thesis, the financial resources of the space economy are conveyed with current data, and in the fourth part, empirical analysis is carried out. According to the results of the empirical analysis, it has been found that the increase in public investments in space, the increase in the number of employment in the space economy and the increase in the number of internet users increase the incomes of the space economy.
