Futures Commodity Markets and Applicability in Turkish PetrochemicalIndustryGökhan BEDÜKDokuz Eylül University, TurkeyInstitute of Social SciencesDepartment of EconomyMoney and Bank ProgramThe companies are often affected negatively and have to struggle withmany uncertainties due to globalization of world trade by the effects ofincreasing technological developments, freely settled foreign currencies,changing interest rates very highly volatile prices of various commodityproducts, especially oil and oil derivatives prices. Particularly, both producingand consuming companies dealing directly or indirectly with petroleumproducts are mostly affected. By taking this volatile progress into account, thefinance world continues to develop new instruments against these uncertainties.Futures commodity markets offer the most important instruments and variousalternatives arising with this purpose. In futures commodity markets, differenttypes of the instruments related to these products are used.In this thesis, the importance of futures commodity markets, applicationsin petrochemical sector and applicability in Turkey have been studied. In thefirst section of this study, instruments used in futures commodity markets areexplained starting from the risk concept. Petrochemical market andpetrochemicals in futures commodity markets in the world take place in thesecond section of the thesis. In the last section, plastics sector taking up a lot ofroom within petrochemical market, this sector?s future and potential in Turkeyand applicability of futures commodity markets in this sector are examined.
