Vakit journal in the literary and cultural mobility (5 October 1926 – 30 November 1928)

Vakit Newspaper is established by corporation of Mehmet Asım Us ve Ahmet Emin Yalman in 1917. The first issue is on 22nd October 1917. In 1923, Mehmet Asım Us ve Ahmet Emin Yalman bring this corporation to an end As of this date, Mehmet Asım Us and Hakkı Tarık Us take over the newspaper. Vakit newspaper, that was published in Arabic-letters till the end of 1928, is printed in Roman-letters after 1928. Vakit starting to be published as from the last periods of Ottoman Empire closes in 1967. In this research that we studied about its issues between 5th October 1926 and 30th November 1928, we can meet an eligible group of authors including Mehmet Asım Us, Hakkı Süha Gezgin, Cenap Şahabettin, Halide Edip Adıvar, Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar, Ahmet İhsan Tokgöz, Reşat Nuri Güntekin, Nurettin Artam, Faruk Nafiz Çamlıbel, Refik Ahmet Sevengil, Ali Haydar Emir [Alpagut], Muhsin Ertuğrul, Halil Halit, Agah Sırrı Levend, Ahmet Cevat, Aka Gündüz, Ali Canip Yöntem, Tahsin Banguoğlu… Vakit is a media organ of a mentality turning towards the Western civilization. Vakit Newspaper moving according to this fundamental principle, enlightens the readers about the country's and world's agenda. It informs the community about achievement of Republic regime and revolutions. It also publishes important parts regarding the activites of newspapers, literature and the other fields of art. Examples of serial novel which reflect literary and cultural movement of that period, stories, poems, translated texts, reviews, interviews, announcements of new works and news concerning cinema and theatre take place in the issues that we examine. Vakit newspaper is one of the qualified periodical publications that provide an environment for a literary and cultural movement of its period and inform the readers about these kinds of works.
