Özet (EN)

Existentialism is a philosophy that developed in opposition to the preceding philosophical tradition's attempts to understand existence solely through reason or experience, by centering on human beings and the problems arising from human existence. Shaped by the proclamation of the death of God, the dark impact of two world wars, and the crisis engulfing philosophy and sciences, existentialism seeks answers to questions such as why humans exist here and now, and how they exist. In doing so, it explores the limitations of human existence, existential angst, human abandonment, loneliness, lack of essence, groundlessness, the condition of finding oneself thrown into the world without choice-what is called "thrownness"—and the nausea experienced as part of this, all in an effort to make sense of human existence. This study aims to elucidate the relationship between "thrownness," understood as finding oneself cast into existence without choice, and the nausea experienced by humans who, in their attempt to give meaning to their existence, perceive themselves as essentially groundless, causeless, and purposeless, thereby condemned to responsibility and freedom-concepts central to the philosophies of existentialism's two major thinkers, Martin Heidegger and Jean-Paul Sartre, who placed human existence at the center of their thought. The fact that humans find themselves thrown into the world without having chosen it constitutes the foundation and cause of the nausea they experience. This thesis seeks to offer a renewed reading of the phenomena of thrownness and nausea together with existential angst.
