Abstract (EN)
After the end of the Cold War, efforts were made to establish a new world order. Major powers had to change their methods in order to implement their own goals. With this study, it has been attempted to examine the changes in the strategies of major states in the changing world order. Within this scope, qualitative studies in the literature have been examined, revealing the emergence of the era of 'proxy wars,' where states actively engage by supporting ethnic, religious, and ideological groups in the region rather than directly intervening themselves. In this study, firstly, the concept of war, the causes of war, and the changes and transformations that war has experienced throughout history have been analyzed. Moreover, the reasons for war have also altered within the changing process, which has been deeply analyzed in this study. Additionally, it has been observed that new types of wars have emerged today due to the changing and transforming concept of war. In the other part of the study, the concept of proxy war, the nature of proxy war actors, the nature of the proxy relationship, the motivation of proxy war, terrorist organizations, and the context of proxy wars have been tackled. Subsequently, the instability in the region following the Arab Spring and the emergence of the PYD/YPG terrorist organization, which is the Syrian extension of the PKK, have been examined. Finally, it has been focused on the major-proxy relationship between the aforementioned organization and the US under the concept of proxy war.
