Özet (EN)
This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of guide nurse care bundle in the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia. The research was conducted as an intervention study with active control group between 1 January-30 September 2023 in the General Intensive Care Units of Ankara Bilkent City Hospital with 44 nurses and 125 patients in the intervention group and 44 nurses and 115 patients in the active control group. 'Nurses' Descriptive Characteristics Form', "Knowledge Level Form for Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia", "Ventilator Associated Pneumonia Care Bundle Control Form" and "Patient Information Form" were used as data collection tools. Ventilator-associated pneumonia care bundle was used in the active control group of the study, and ventilator-associated pneumonia care bundle was used in the intervention group with the nurse guide. Descriptive statistical methods, Mann Whitney U Test, One-way Analysis of Variance, Chi-square test were used in data analysis. P<0.05 was accepted for statistical significance. The care bundle compliance of the intervention and active control groups were 91.77%-90.06% in the first period, 88.52%-95.92% in the second period, and 95.75%-95.91% in the third period, respectively. When the care bundle compliance of both groups was compared, a significant difference was found in the second period and in the average of all periods in the direction of higher compliance in the active control group (p<0.001). The rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia decreased from 11.07 to 5.56 in the intervention group accompanied by a nurse guide and from 13.42 to 6.87 in the active control group. In conclusion, it was determined that education and nurse-guided care bundle implementation were effective in decreasing the rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia. However, it is recommended that multidisciplinary trainings should be given, since training of nurses alone will not be sufficient to reduce the rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia Keywords: Care bundle, guide nurse, ventilator-associated pneumonia, ventilator-associated pneumonia rate, intensive care units, intensive care nurses
