Abstract (EN)

In this study, antimicrobial activities of 8 different species of Verbascum (V. speciosum, V. chaeriantifolium, V. nudatum var. nudatum, V. pycnostachyum, V. cariense, V. lasianthum, V. domulosum and V. georgicum) were tested. The speciemens extracted with alcohol (60%) and water (40%) mixed solvent. These extracts have been tested against 15 different microorganisms (Bacillus subtilis DSMZ 1971, Enterobacter aerogenes ATCC 13048, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Enterococcus faecium, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa DSMZ 50071, Pseudomonas fluorescens P1, Salmonella enteritidis ATCC 13075, Salmonella infantis, Salmonella kentucky, Salmonella typhimurium SL 1344, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Staphylococcus epidermidis DSMZ 20044 and Candida albicans DSMZ 1386) In this study, disk diffusion (DD) method and minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) methods were applied. The highest activity was determined by V. domulosum against C. albicans with a zone diameter 14 mm and with the same zone diameter by V. georgicum against B. subtilis. As a result of this thesis, it has been determined that some Verbascum species have antimicrobial activity. However, further studies are needed to determine the active compounds in these plants.
