USING OF DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS AND MALMQUISTTOTAL FACTOR PRODUCTIVITY INDEX IN INVESTIGATING THEEFFICIENCY OF AGRICULTURE IN PROVINCES OF TURKEY(M.Sc. Thesis)Ufuk ÖZOKGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTAgriculture is an activity meeting the need for nutrition, one of the basic needsof people, since early ages as it has been in the fertile lands of our country.Being one of the most effective ways of agricultural activity efficiencymeasurement tool Data Envelopment Analysis and Malmquist Total FactorProductivity Index providing more detailed information are used in this studyto examine the efficiency of agriculture in the provinces of Turkey. Cereal andpulse plantation are used as input variables in ton unit and cereal and pulseproduction as output variables in hectare unit. Variables are gathered from 80provinces except Düzce for the period of 1998 to 2003. Data are collected fromRepublic of Turkey, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs website and areanalysed by using 2.1 version of Deap Program developed by Tim Coelli-without any loss of data. The findings of this study display that total factorproductivity index increasing is observed to be 46%.Science Code : 205.1.066Key Words : Data envelopment analysis, malmquist tfp indexPage Number : 95Adviser : Prof. Dr. Hasan BAL
