A comparative study for efficiency of Middle East and North Africa countries (MENA) via using data envelopment analysis

Özet (EN)

High living and welfare of individuals in social groups is directly related to development level of countries. Effective using of existent sources are geared to development level of countries. All governmental associations included local administrations are to make unprofitable operations for public benefit. The purpose of this study is to make efficiency analysis by using some economical indicators. In this study, various economical efficiencies of twenty countries located in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are investigated by data envelopment analysis. Analysis were made with output of CCR model and output of BCC model. Collected data for 2010-2014 years of these countries were used in the models. These data were solved by Efficiency Measurement System (EMS) software packet. Then results were interpreted. After that annual economical efficiency changings of these countries were analized by using Malmquist Total Factor Productivity Method. According to obtained results, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Malta are found efficient in all analysis. Algeria, Morocco, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia, while effective in some analyzes, some of them were no effective. Iran, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Oman and Yemen have not been effective in the analysis. Keywords: Data Envelopment Analysis, Efficiency Analysis, MENA, Economic Efficiency
