The ımpact of video-assisted early mobilization training on mobilization and mobilization related criteria following abdominal surgery

Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted quasi experimentally to determine the effect of early mobilization training using animated videos in the postoperative period on the mobilization status (number of stands up, number of steps and time to first stand up) and some criteria related to mobilization (lung capacities, length of hospital stay, time of first oral feeding, time of first flatus, pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue) of patients. The study was carried out with 62 patients in Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Hospital General Surgery clinics. While the experimental group patients were given early mobilization training with an animation video in the preoperative period, the control group patients received routine care in the clinic. Data collected with "Introductory Features Questionnaire", "Itaki Fall Risk Scale", "Katz Activities of Daily Living Scale", "Daily Monitoring Form", "Smart Bracelet Tracking Form", "Lung Capacity Evaluation Form", "Animation Video Evaluation Form for Patients", a spirometer and smart bracelet. It was found that the experimental group patients stood up and took more steps, and their walking distance and active time were longer than the control group patients on the day of surgery and the first postoperative day (p<0.05). The time first to stand up and flatus in the same group was shorter (p<0.05). While there was no difference between the medians of pulse and systolic blood pressure between the groups (p>0.05), there was a difference between the medians of diastolic blood pressure measurement on the first day after surgery (p=0.032). The difference between the preoperative and postoperative second-day respiratory function values of the patients in the two groups was not significant (p>0.05). Control group patients had more complaints than the experimental group when standing up at both follow-ups (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between the groups in pain, nausea, dizziness, fatigue and vomiting values on the day of surgery and the first day after surgery (p>0.05). The majority of the experimental group patients recommended that other patients watch the animation video. Within the scope of the research, a new educational tool was introduced to the literature.
