Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of soil-structure interaction (SSI) on the structural response of buildings equipped with viscous dampers. Soil-structure interaction can significantly affect the structural response, particularly under seismic loads, and ignoring these effecta can lead to significant deviations in analyses. In this study, both fixed-base (assuming rigid soil) and interactive models (where actual soil properties are defined) will be comparatively evaluated. The seismic energy dissipation capacity of viscous dampers, the effects of different soil classes (e.g., weak, medium, and stiff soils) on structural performance, the role of SSI on the dynamic response of the structure, such as maximum displacement, floor accelerations, and base shear, and the potential impact of ignoring SSI on design stage and engineering decisions will be analyzed in detail. This thesis aims to emphasize the importance of considering soil-structure interaction when evaluating the effectiveness of viscous dampers in structural designs and to contribute to the development of more accurate, safe, and economical structural systems.
