Wabi sabi aesthetics and the effects of it on the Japanese ceramic art

Aesthetics as one of the basic values of the art, is defined as a discipline that analyses the enthusiastic and emotional things. It has a great effect on the things like culture, aesthetical liking and principles that are defined as all earthly and spiritual things presented by human. In this context, the `East? as oppose to the meaning of `West? in terms way of thinking, has its unique aesthetical apprehension and art phenomenon. The beauty is sought in ordinary, defective, sober natural, calm colors, irregular shapes and texture. Wabi- Sabi is the aesthetical liking system that composes the back ground of this beauty apprehension. In this context, it is seen that the Japanese art of ceramics is based upon this Wabi- Sabi aesthetical discipline. The organic connection with the past that is established by the Japanese ceramics artists, and their use of this connection in their works of art increase the uniqueness of Japanese ceramic art in contemporary art of ceramics. In this research, Japanese ceramic art is going to be examined and evaluated with the examples in terms of wabi- sabi aesthetical discipline. Key Words: aesthetics, Japanese, ceramics, wabi- sab
