Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of Scratch program, one of the Web 2.0 tools, on the academic achievement of 3rd grade primary school students in Life Science course. The design of this study was determined as a quasi-experimental design with pre-test post-test control group. The study group of the research consisted of 27 students, 16 in the experimental group and 11 in the control group, studying in the 3rd grade of a primary school in Bolu province in the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. Data were collected through the 21-item Life in Nature Achievement Test developed by the researcher. Scratch-based education was given to the experimental group for 14 class hours, while traditional education was given to the control group. In order to determine the difference between the pre-test and post-test achievement scores of the experimental and control group students, an unpaired sample t-test was conducted, and a paired sample t-test was conducted to determine the difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group and the pre-test and post-test scores of the control group. As a result of the data analysis, it was determined that the pre-test scores of the experimental and control groups were equal to each other, and the post-test scores of the experimental and control groups were significantly higher than the pre-test scores. It was also concluded that the posttest score of the experimental group was significantly higher than the posttest score of the control group. The results show that the Scratch method is an effective method that can be used in Life Science teaching. Scratch applications can be emphasized more in the curricula to be updated.
