Web based GIS, street view and virtual reality

Street View, which was released by Google in 2007, is an ideal tool to discover places and locations. This service doesn?t only provide spatial information, but also a virtual reality enviroment for the user. Unfortunately, this service is not avaible in our country. But, in additionally, Google enable users to create street view with custom panoramic image with the help of Google Maps API for Javascript. In this study, this service, which is not avaible in our country, was released in Yildiz Technical University Davutpasa Campus. This service was created using different type of images and effects of using different image types to Street view performance were examined. To make street view more user friendly and to provide more information to the user, street view was integrated with a web-based geographic information system. Additionally, to create a greater experience in virtual reality in street view, it was made possible to control street view with body motion using a motion sensor.
