The effect of Webquest method on students? ability of creative thinking and the level of motivation

Aim of this study is to find out whether a learning environment created by using WebQuest method has an effect on 7th grader students? ability of creative thinking on mathematics and the level of motivation. Study is conducted on 65 of 7th grader students in one of the Primary Schools in Gebze, Kocaeli. In the study, experimental design with pre and post test control group is used. At the begining of the study ?The Scale for The Ability of Creative Thinking? and ?The Motivation Scale? as pre test are used. Subject of cylinder by using WebQuest is taught to 33 experimental group students in 4 hours in a week, lasting for in total 4 weeks. On the other hand, according to renewed curriculum, traditional education is used with 32 control group students. After that, ?scale fort he ability of creative thinking? and ?motivation scale? are practiced on each group as post test. To solve sub-problem of the study, percentage, frequency, standard deviation, ANOVA (repeated measures) are used. There hasn?t been a significant difference between the pretest and posttest cumulative creativity scale scores of experiment and control groupsAfter the experiment, motivation level of students in experiment group has been found positively high. It is stated that social interaction and collaboration among group members have affected affective reactions of students positively.In direction of these results, it is concluded that WebQuest educational method has no meaningful effect on creative thinking ability; however, it is a factor on increasing motivation level of students.Key Words: WebQuest, Constructivism, Creative Thinking Skills, Motivation
