This research aims to examine the work in historical context to reveal the place and importance of William Walton's viola concerto in the viola repertoire. Based on this purpose, a conceptual framework was created by examining the 20th-century viola understanding, the historical development of the viola in this period, essential performers who contributed to the development of the viola and viola technique, and some critical works in the viola repertoire. Secondly, the life of the composer and the place of the viola in his life were investigated. Then, the editions of the viola concerto, its first and subsequent performances were researched, and finally, musical and technical suggestions were presented on the viola concerto. As a result, it has been seen that the work has an important place in the viola repertoire of the 20th century. Viola performers performed it during and after it was written, and the viola concerto had an important place in the composer's holding an important position in English music. This research has created a resource for violists who want to perform the piece and those who want to research it.
