A research on generation X and generation Y's perception of paternalistic leadershi̇p

Paternalistic leadership behaviours are considerably common leadership behaviours particularly in the Eastern culture. For the reason that the Eastern culture is more collectivist and owns a high power distance than the Western culture. It may express that paternalistic leadersip behaviours might be embraced also in Turkish employees to take dominant social culture in Turkey into account that exhibits similar features with Eastern culture. The purpose of this study is to reveal the perception of paternalistic leadership of generation X which is the largest generation in workforce and generation Y which is the new members of the workforce. Thus, it might learn to outlook of the generation X and Y, grew up in a globalized world, of the paternalistic leaderhip which is relating to Eastern culture. In this research were participate to 116 employees from a production facility in Eskişehir. Data in this study were collected by using paternalistic leadership scale developed by Aycan (2006). SPSS was used in the data analysis. Factor analysis, one sample T-test, Levene variance test with independent sample T-test, Pearson Correlation test, and factor means were used to in this study. The generation X and generation Y employees' perceptions of paternalistic leadership were found high. The results of this study revealed that there are significant differences between generation X and Y according to paternalistic dimensions. The correlation analysis shows that involvement in employees' non-work lives has a mid-level and positive relation both individualized relationships and loyalty expectation.
