Examination of the relationship between ethical climate and job satisfaction among X and Y generation teachers

In this study, it is aimed to reveal the views of X and Y Generation teachers about the perceived ethical climate in their schools and job satisfaction levels and to examine the relationship between ethical climate and job satisfaction. The research was conducted in the correlational design and in the survey model. The target population of the research consists of 1285 teachers working in public primary, secondary and high schools in the Central District of Yozgat, in the 2019-2020 academic year and the sample of the research comprised of 331 teachers. In the study, the Organizational Ethical Climate Scale (Özen ve Durkan, 2016) and the Job Satisfaction Scale (Tezer, 2001) was used. In the analysis of the data, descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis-H and Pearson Correlation analysis were used. In the study, the level of perceived ethical climate of the X Generation teachers was found to be high. X Generation teachers perceive ruled climate in their schools "always" and efficient, socially responsible, beneficiary benevolent and principled climates "mostly". There are significant differences between the views of Generation X teachers about ethical climate according to the variables of position and length of service. Ethical climate perceptions of X Generation school administrators and teachers with a seniority of 21 years or more are more positive. X Generation teachers have high job satisfaction levels. There are no significant differences between the views of Generation X teachers about job satisfaction according to demographic variables. According to Generation X teachers, there is a positive, moderate and significant relationship between perceived ethical climate and job satisfaction. In the study, the level of perceived ethical climate of the Y Generation teachers was found to be high. Y Generation teachers perceive ruled, efficient, socially responsible, beneficiary benevolent climates in their schools "mostly" and principled climate "sometimes". There are significant differences between the views of Generation Y teachers about ethical climate according to the variables of branch and educational level. Ethical climate perceptions of Generation Y primary school teachers and undergraduate teachers are more positive. Y Generation teachers have high job satisfaction levels. There are significant differences between the views of Generation Y teachers about job satisfaction according to gender, branch and education level variables. The views of Y Generation female teachers, primary school teachers and undergraduate teachers about job satisfaction are more positive. According to Generation Y teachers, there is a positive, moderate and significant relationship between perceived ethical climate and job satisfaction. In the study, the level of perceived ethical climate of teachers was found to be high. Teachers perceive ruled, efficient, socially responsible, beneficiary benevolent climates in their schools "mostly" and principled climate "sometimes". There are significant differences between teachers' views about ethical climate according to the variables of generation, position, branch, education level and length of service. Ethical climate perceptions of X Generation teachers, school administrators, elementary school teachers, undergraduate teachers and teachers with a seniority of 21 years or more are more positive. Teachers have high job satisfaction levels. There are significant differences between teachers' views about job satisfaction according to branch and length of service variables. The views of primary school teachers and teachers with a seniority of 21 years or more about job satisfaction are more positive. According to teachers, there is a positive, moderate and significant relationship between perceived ethical climate and job satisfaction.
