11 FLASH BUTT WELDING APPLICATION ON X40CrMoV 5 1 HOT WORK TOOLS STEEL AND Ç1030 STEEL AND INVESTIGATIONS OF IT'S MECHANICAL PROPERTIES (M.Sc. Thesis) AliAKAY GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY May 2004 ABSTRACT In this study flash butt welding has been applied X40CrMoV5 1 with Ç1030 steels.Their micro structure and mechanical properties have been investigated. During experimental upseting current time and upset pressure were selected as variable parameteres. Further more normalisation heat treatment was aplied to the samples welded and effect of heat treatment on welding quality and mechanical properties have been investigated. Experimental results showed that the variable welding parameters and applied heat treatment effected the mechanical properties of welding where highest hardness values have been observed on welding zone. It was found also that increasing upset current time and upset pressure not affected the tensile strenght of materials.
