Abstract (EN)

Throughout human history, animals have not only been a part of natural life, but also creatures that make human life easier. Animals have directly affected the lifestyles of societies in political, social and economic terms. In Islamic history, animals have an important impact on the military and political success of the states in the Asia Minor. This effect has also enabled them to make progress in the fields of animal diseases and drug production. In the XII. and XIV. centuries, the Abbasids and Mamluks, like other Islamic states, used horses in their armies, which led them to attach special importance to horses and to develop the profession of veterinarians and treatment methods for horse diseases.Animal diseases and treatment methods in the veterinary books written during this period started a new era in the field of veterinary medicine.Natural treatment methods have generally been used in the treatment of animal diseases. The raw materials of the medicines used in natural treatment methods are mostly obtained from plants found in the Asia Minor regions or from materials and minerals transported from distant regions through trade. This study examines animal diseases and treatment methods that occurred in the Asia Minor in the XII. and XIV. centuries through veterinary medicine treatises.
