Abstract (EN)
Demirci and its environment, having entered Turk governance with Saruhanoğulları seigniory, has been a settlement since B.C and joined Saruhan district as a borough under the Ottoman provincial organization. There were two sub-districts in the first half and four sub-districts in the second half of the sixteenth century and there were more than 170 villages(173 villages in 1520-1531 period, 181 villages in 1575) in them. Demirci, the center of the borough, comprises 13 streets. Besides the city in which also non Muslım population live, Demirci borough where the population intensifies in country was superior to the neighborhood boroughs by means of population. Charity works such as mosque, masjid, hermitage, school and fountains are distributed to both country and city. Manor system was implemented within the demesne regime and the most grown crop was cereal. Numerous mills indicate the widespread agricultural production and also livestock breeding occupies an important place in the region?s economy. It is understood from the registry books that the taxation which was implemented in other parts of Ottoman Empire was also implemented in Demirci borough.
