Amasya in the second half of 17th century: According to court records

In this study, the social, physical and administrative conditions of the Amasya Province were examined. As the main source, it was benefited from Amasya Court Records including between the years 1648-1703 which are founded at National Library. These records are 17 numbers in total from 7 numbered record to 23 numbered record.This study consists of four chapters along with an introduction and the conclusion chapter at the end. In the introduction part, while dealt with the subject, method and problematic of dissertation, it also was talked about inquiring and examining works related with the history of Amasya, except from court records. The records used as basic sources were introduced in study.In the first part of study, primarily after information was given about the history of Amasya, in the context of physical structure of Amasya Province, the castle of Amasya was clarified and information about the districts of Amasya was given. It was aimed at determining demographical situation according to avarizhane numbers. Moreover, in this chapter, the relation between province and country of Amasya was explained. In this context, after determined the role of Amasya in the Ottoman administrative organisation, Amasya was evaluated in accordance with the relation between providence and country. The country and subdistrict of province were determined.In the second chapter, the administrators officiated in Amasya Province were described, it was tried at determining the names and duty periods of staffs fulfilling duties in both administrative and juridical administration in province as much as the information records provide.In the third chapther of this study, it is dealt with Amasya court. After explained the place and working order of the court, it was tried at determining the subject matters in Amasya court. Also, the parties according to their degrees was examined such as the military-reaya, woman-man, muslim-non muslim. Lastly, the arrivals from close-wide and remote area to Amasya were evaluated according to court records in this chapter.In the fourth and last chapter, the life in Amasya was described. In this context, daily life of people of Amasya in the light of the difference of public and private sphere was mentioned. It was examined that the administrators, people, women and non Muslims living in Amasya in the period explained along with public sphere and also private sphere. Moreover, in the content of public sphere, markets and khans of Amasya were clarified. The districts, homes and families of Amasya were socially examined in this chapter
