Abstract (EN)
All kinds of news designed by the media contribute to the configuration of the perception in society. The contents, prepared by a foreign media organization in a different country related to another country, are too significant for creating a public opinion about that country. The news about Turkey published in the foreign media may demonstrate the perspective on Turkey. The social developments in Turkey and the world, and foreign media projections to Turkey-dimension of the mentioned social progress, were analyzed. Besides, in this study, we researched how the foreign media desired to create a perception in the public opinion by the newscasts published in media relating to Turkey from the perspective of the particular categories such as subject, type, reflection method. The content analysis method for the news in the foreign media, regarding the Turkey perception, was performed based on their Turkey-perception. The performance was kept limited with the measurement capability of the coding guidelines used in the content analysis. In the study, The New York Times of the USA, Bild of Germany, The Guardian of the UK, and Le Monde of France were appointed to represent the foreign media. All news publications of newspapers shared from the Twitter accounts during 2016 were examined. The newscasts shared before & after July 15th, 2016, were compared according to the determined criteria. As a result of the analysis, the newspapers were observed to share 746 news about Turkey from their Twitter accounts. Also, we observed that the number of newscasts increased after the failed-coup on July 15th, 2016. The numerical increase was also observed in other categories in the coding directive. Besides the quantitative findings, newscasts were selected from the newspapers in numerical ratios, including the sampling for 12-months in 2016, and the qualitative analysis was performed in the research.
