In this study it is aimed to figure out how mnemotechnic which is one of teaching techniques can be used in a foreign language teaching and the effectiveness of this technique in a comparison with a classical teaching style. This effectiveness has been examined and defined according to a trial lesson for lexical topic 'Health' in 'Russian Composition 2 (Written and Oral)' lesson, where have taken part 4th semester students of Istanbul University Russian Language and Literature Department. This experiment has been lasting seven days with participation of 18 students and total amount of words of 40. The experiment has evaluated according to the first and the second tests. To make necessary statistical calculations there has been used a calculation of the same experiment in Stanford University by Prof. Dr. R. Atkinson as a model. This experimental study describes the usage of the menotechnic and the result of its effectiveness in a comparison with a classical way of a word teaching. As a result of the experiment, it was found out that using mnemotechnic in the vocabulary learning of Russian as a foreign language promotes improvement of vocabulary and according to the calculations is more effective than a classical way. According to these results it is clear that mnemotechnic is an effective word teaching way in a Russian as a foreign language teaching.
