Abstract (EN)
The "Introduction" of the study composed of five chapters discusses the history, profundity, geographical prevalence of Turkish language and the richness of the vocabulary. First chapter titled "Proverbs and Idioms" details the appearance of proverbs and idioms as well as the characteristics of syntax and semantics. Second chapter titled "Turkish Education as a Foreign Language" studies the process of Turkish education as a foreign language from past to present and refers to some methods and techniques employed in language education. In chapter three titled "Proverb and Idiom Teaching in Movies", an empirical research pattern with pre-test, post-test experiment-control group is implemented. It is observed that teaching proverbs and idioms by way of movies yields successful results, in the light of the findings obtained at the end of the research. It will help to teach by means of audio-visual materials in some part of the lessons and planned activities. In the final chapter titled "Proverb and Idiom Teaching in Stories", another empirical research pattern with preliminary test, final test experiment-control group is implemented. It is observed that teaching proverbs and idioms by way of stories yields successful results, in the light of the findings obtained at the end of the research. It must be ensured that the technique of teaching by way of stories finds a place in the lessons in preference to other classical methods, considering the success of education implemented in Turkish teaching as a foreign language. This experimental study is intended to identify the teaching techniques which contribute positively to success.
