Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research was to analyze the general and organizational cynicism levels of lecturers working at the schools of foreign languages. In this research, relational design, one of the quantitative research approaches, was preferred. The study group consisted of three state and six private universities in Istanbul. The data were collected through general cynicism scale developed by Wrigtsman and organizational cynicism scale developed by Brandes. Both scales were translated into Turkish by Erdost, Karacaoğlu and Reyhanoglu. When the data were analyzed, it was seen that the general and organizational cynicism levels of lecturers who work at the schools of foreign languages of private universities are higher than the general and organizational cynicism levels of lecturers who work at the schools of foreign languages of state universities. Moreover, a significant difference was found between the general and organizational cynicism levels of lecturers. Apart from this, there is a significant difference between the general and organizational levels of lecturers and their professional seniorities, ages, marital status and incomes. There were no significant differences between the general and organizational levels of lecturers and their genders, education levels, degrees and love of their jobs. As a result, working conditions where lecturers can feel happy, a working environment where they can state their opinions freely and management with whom they can have an exchange of ideas without hesitation might be supplied to reduce the cynicism levels of lecturers. Key words: cynicism, general cynicism, organizational cynicism, general cynicism scale, organizational cynicism scale
