Opinions of foreign students about the value of respect forri̇ghts and freedoms: Example of Kastamonu province

This study was conducted with 15 foreign students studying in secondary schools in Kastamonu province center during the 2016-2017 school year in order to determine the opinions of the 6th grade Social Studies students of Kastamonu on the respect value of rights and freedoms. Phenomeology as qualitative research methods were used in this study. The data were collected from focus group interview. Asked 20 questions prepared by the researcher about the value of respecting rights and freedoms to foreign students and drawing pictures about rights and freedoms. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis. According to the results of the study, students do not express any opinion on political rights when they express opinions on individual rights, social and economic rights. They have learned that what they know as crime in their country is in fact their own rights and freedoms. The fact that the value of respect for rights and freedoms as a separate lesson for them has to be punished for those who do not respect rights and freedoms. They have come to the conclusion that all of the students in value education are modeling the role of teachers in carrying out their responsibilities to convey values, through education. As it is understood from the results of this research, the values that are accepted by the societies with a good citizen education which is the main aim of the Social Studies Course are significant. For this reason, Value Education can be suggested to be taught in schools and to educate the teachers that the students take role models about value education with seminars and courses.
