Abstract (EN)

In teaching Turkish to foreigners, the introduction and transmission of Turkish culture are among the targets as well as Turkish language teaching. In this context, it is very important to introduce Turkish culture correctly through textbooks to be used in teaching Turkish to foreigners. When this importance is given, it is necessary to reflect carefully and accurately the gender perception of society in the preparation of the textbooks. It will be seen that individuals who recognize Turkish culture through elaborately prepared textbooks gain correctly the perception of gender in Turkish culture. In this study shaped for this purpose, according to categories which are determined and the frame which is constituted, visuals, reading and listening texts in Yeni Hitit 1 Turkish for foreigners, Gazi TÖMER Turkish textbook for foreigners, İstanbul A1 Turkish textbook for foreigners and Yedi İklim A1 Turkish textbook which are used in teaching Turkish to foreigners are investigated in this study, the gender preference in these books has been tried to be revealed in the context of the characteristics of Turkish culture. Document review which is one of the qualitative research methods was used in the study. In this context, each book has been analyzed one by one by making a content analysis according to the categories that have been created in order to reveal how visuals in the textbooks and sexual preference in reading and listening texts exist. As a result of the examination, the distribution of the pictures in the books according to the gender was determined, the findings obtained from the places where the genders are located, the individuals they communicate with, the occupations they represent and their actions related to their activities and responsibilities were interpreted. As a result of the study, it was determined that there were differences between the books. Some of the books reflect the traditional gender perception of Turkish culture while some of them did not reflect and some of them consisted of data out of gender patterns when the books are examined separately according to categories. Based on these findings, suggestions have been made on how gender perception should be in the textbooks to be prepared for the related field.
