Determination of basic level vocabulary in teaching Turkish to foreigners: Vocabulary in Turkish textbooks prepared for foreigners with vocabulary in written expression and spoken expression of learners of Turkish as a foreign language

The present study entitled "Determination of Basic Level Vocabulary in Teaching Turkish to Foreigners: Vocabulary in Turkish textbooks prepared for foreigners with vocabulary in written expression and spoken expression of learners of Turkish as a foreign language" was prepared to serve as a model resource for the academics working in the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language, text writers who aim to gain and develop basic language skills, dictionary writers and corpus linguistics researchers. In this regard; the textbooks used for the basic level in teaching Turkish as a foreign language were scanned, and oral and written applications were made to the basic level (A1-A2) students studying at Sakarya University TOMER (Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Center) for fourteen days. The obtained data were combined in line with the opinions of the experts in lexicology and a limited collection pool was created. Then this restricted corpus was indexed according to the frequency criterion through Cibakaya 2.3. index program and data analysis program. The most frequently obtained two hundred and fifty dictionary unit items were analyzed in terms of content. The current thesis, "Determination of Basic Level Vocabulary in Teaching Turkish to Foreigners: Vocabulary in Turkish textbooks prepared for foreigners with vocabulary in written expression and spoken expression of learners of Turkish as a foreign language", is comprised of four chapters. The first chapter deals with problem status, subproblems with problem statement, importance of research, limitations and literature review. In the second chapter, explanations were made regarding the design of the research, the study group, the data collection tools of the study and the statistical analysis of the data. The third chapter presents the findings and comments about the study. In the fourth chapter,suggestions were displayed with reference to the findings. At the end of the study, an up-to-date and comprehensive bibliography is presented for the researchers who want to study in this field.
