A research on the relationship between work alienation, cyberloafing and personality traits

Abstract (EN)
Work alienation is defined as negative feelings and thoughts experienced by employees due to their alienation from their work goals and non-compliance with workplace norms. Cyberloafing behavior is expressed as employees moving away from doing their main job while they are at work and spending time on the internet for personal purposes. Personality, on the other hand, is a whole that determines the emotions, mental activities and the causes of the behaviors of the person after a certain time, creates the psychological characteristics and expresses who the person is to the external environment. It is thought that the concepts constituting the subject of this thesis are related to each other, and in this context, it is aimed to reveal the relationship between work alienation, cyberloafing and personality traits of employees. The sample of the research consists of 170 white-collar employees working in 4 and 5 star hotels operating in the tourism sector. According to the research findings, it was concluded that there is a positive and significant relationship between work alienation and cyberloafing. There is also a positive and significant relationship between significant cyberloafing and general work alienation, powerlessness, meaninglessness and self-alienation; It was concluded that there is no significant relationship between trivial cyberloafing, alienation from general work, powerlessness, meaninglessness and self-alienation. In addition, it was determined that there is a negative and significant relationship between extraversion, agreeableness, responsibility, openness personality traits and work alienation. It was concluded that there is a positive and significant relationship between work alienation and neuroticism. Negative and significant relationship between cyberloafing and agreeable personality trait; It has been determined that there is a positive and significant relationship between cyberloafing and neuroticism personality trait. It was concluded that there was no significant relationship between cyberloafing and extraversion, conscientiousness and openness personality traits.
